Nowadays, we often engage ourselves in a close conversation, since text messaging is very rampant, we lose the importance of having an open conversation. We tend to believe that sending "Hi" message and receiving "Hello" reply is enough to have a "conversation" with someone.
Let's take this as an example. Drew texted Jody.
Drew: Hi!
Jody: Hi. =)
Drew: =)
And that ends their conversation. That is what we call close conversation. We talk with someone without really having the true sense of conversation. What matters is we made an effort to let that person know we're still alive.
Now, take a look at this example.
Drew: Hi!
Jody: Hi. =)
Drew: Good morning! How's your sleep?
Jody: Good morning, too! I had a good night sleep. How about you?
Drew: I have a terrible insomnia, you know, It's already 2:30AM when I had the chance to sleep.
Jody: Oh, I'm very sorry to know that.
Drew: Do you know anything that I can do to help me with my insomnia?
As what we can see, the conversation that happened was an OPEN conversation. They didn't stop from saying Hi and sending smileys. They keep the conversation going.
How can we keep the conversation going? Here are some of the tips to help you engage in an open conversation.
-Give a little more information than is asked for
-Make related comments
-Repeat key words
-React in some creative way
-Add comments
-Asked related questions
-Use question tags
They say that if you want to be close with someone, be open with them. So, engaging in an open conversation can help you win friends (and I mean TRUE friends) and well, can help you practice your oral skills, too.
